The sport of volleyball has been Kathy
Gregory's love and passion for over 40 years. Her accomplishments as
a player, coach and administrator are unequaled in the sport. Kathy
began coaching at UCSB in 1975 and has guided the program to a 744-307
(.708) record. Over the years, the Gauchos have had 26 seasons in which
they have won twenty or more matches. In 2004, the Gauchos won their
third Big West Title, amassed an overall record of record of 24-4 and
reached a high national ranking of 8 in the USA Today/CSTV Top-25 Coaches'
Poll. Under Gregory's guidance, the Gauchos have advanced to post season
play for 25 straight years, UCSB remains just one of four schools to
qualify for all 24 NCAA Tournaments.
In addition to her coaching, Gregory dominated the
sport as an athlete for more than 15 years. Kathy has provided color
commentary for ESPN's broadcasts of the Women's Professional Beach Tour,
where she made her mark with her popular "In the Crowd" segments.
Kathy's contributions to the sport of volleyball have not gone unnoticed.
Volleyball Magazine named her one of the 10 most influential people
in the sport. She was also a finalist for the Women's Sports Foundation
Hall of Fame, an award that recognizes outstanding contributions to
the advancement of women's athletics. |
