The First Year Outdoor Adventure at UC Santa Barbara is a week of actively exploring the greater Santa Barbara environment before UCSB Move In, Week Of Welcome, and the beginning of classes. It is an opportunity to get to know other first year students so you’ll recognize some familiar faces and have some new friends on campus during your transition to UCSB. We plan to camp, kayak, climb, hike, and adventure together in Santa Barbara, UCSB, Ventura, and the Channel Islands National Park.
Why/what are the goals of FYOA?
The First Year Outdoor Adventure combines some of the most popular local outdoor activities such as rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, camping and a Santa Cruz Island experience. It is also a unique opportunity for all participants to meet and create relationships for all participants that will last for all your years at UCSB and into the future.
Our main goals for every participant are to:
-
Jumpstart your transition into the UCSB community

Develop relationships with new peers
-
Gain an early sense of community at UCSB
